This edition presents nine extremely elaborate sets of passaggi for viola bastartda based on preexisting vocal works – French chansons and Italian madrigals – found in Bonizzi's 1626 print, together with the MS version of number 8 found in I-Bc C.85 (Olim Cod. 089:13). The editor provides performance suggestions and bibliographic context surrounding Bonizzi and his circle, including new translations of sections of Bonizzi's preface. The materials are presented in score, together with Bonizzi's unfigured basso seguente part, and as a separate solo part for the bowed bass instrument.
